If your purchases are tagged in Kit, Deadline Funnel can turn that tag into a recorded sale — so your campaign's Orders and Sales figures fill in on their own. The Kit Sales Tracking assistant wires it up in a chat window, then runs a real test sale to confirm it lands.
Quick Links
This guide covers sales tracking. If you want Kit to start deadlines instead, that's the separate Kit Integration assistant — the two are independent, and most campaigns want both.
Before you start
A Kit account on a plan that includes webhook (Rule) access.
Your Kit API Key and API Secret from Kit → Settings → Developer, if Kit isn't connected yet.
A campaign whose Email Platform is set to Kit.
Optional — a tag in Kit that marks a purchase. If you already have one, have its name handy. If you don't, you can name a new one in the chat at Step 2 and the assistant creates it in Kit for you, so there's nothing to prepare in advance.
An email address you own, for the test sale.
One price per campaign
Sales tracking through Kit records a fixed amount per purchase. If your campaign sells products at several different prices, use your checkout platform's own integration instead — it can pass the real order value.
Open the assistant
There are two ways in. If you're building a new campaign, the assistant comes to you.
The usual way: the last step of the AI Campaign Creator
Build a campaign with the AI Campaign Creator and set its Email Platform to Kit. The creator offers its steps in order: first the Kit email integration, then sales tracking. Once you've finished — or skipped — the email step, the same panel offers this:
The assistant opens right there, already pointed at the campaign you just made.
Fixed-date and Quantity campaigns
The creator goes straight to this step on those types, because the email integration assistant only covers evergreen-style campaigns.
Skip for now — view campaign takes you to the campaign editor, where you can start the assistant any time using the route below.
The other way: from a campaign you already have
Open your campaign and look in the left sidebar under Quick Links for Set Up Sales Tracking. Click the purple star icon next to it.
The star opens the assistant. The text of the link opens the older manual window.
Star, not text
Clicking the text of the link opens the manual Sales Tracking window instead. If you land somewhere that doesn't look like a chat, go back and click the star.
You can also reach it from the Sales Tracking window itself — the same Set up sales tracking with AI star sits next to its heading.
Either way, the same chat opens and starts working straight away. Seven steps run across the top:
Step | What happens |
Connect | Checks that Kit is linked to Deadline Funnel |
Check setup | Looks at whether this campaign already has sales tracking |
Tag | You choose, or create, the tag that marks a purchase |
Sale amount | You give the value each sale should record |
Kit rule | The assistant builds the Rule inside Kit |
Verify | A real test sale runs end to end |
Done | Confirmation of what's now live |
1. Connect your Kit account
If Kit isn't connected yet, a short form appears in the chat with API Key and API Secret fields and a Where to find these in Kit link. Fill it in and click Connect Kit.
Keep credentials in the form
The assistant will never ask you to type a key or secret into the chat. The form is the only place they're entered.
If Kit is already connected, the assistant confirms it and moves on.
2. Choose your purchase tag
The assistant asks "Which tag marks a purchase?" and opens a picker with both routes available at once:
Pick an existing tag from the dropdown, or name a new one and the assistant makes it in Kit.
Choose the tag your checkout or post-purchase automation applies to buyers. If you name a tag that already exists, the assistant reuses it instead of duplicating it.
If you're creating the tag here rather than picking an existing one, make a note to point your checkout or automation at it in Kit afterwards — a brand-new tag isn't on anyone yet, so nothing will record until something starts applying it.
If this campaign already has sales tracking
The assistant skips the picker and tells you which tag is wired and what amount it records. You get two buttons: Re-run verification to re-test the existing setup, or Change the tag to switch to a different one.
3. Set the sale amount
Answer in plain language — the amount and the currency together.
Type something like 49.99 USD. Every purchase carrying that tag records at that value.
4. The Kit rule is built for you
Nothing to do here. The assistant creates the Rule in your Kit account and confirms what's now wired, with a View your Kit rule link so you can inspect it in Kit.
Sales tracking is live from this point. The verification that follows is optional but recommended.
This step is safe to repeat — re-running replaces the campaign's sales rule rather than creating a second one.
5. Run a test sale
The assistant asks for a test email address and explains exactly what the test does first: it subscribes that address to your own Kit account, applies the purchase tag, and records a Test Sale that is excluded from your live campaign totals.
Enter an address you own. The assistant subscribes it, tags it, and watches for the sale to arrive:
The dashboard checks every few seconds and counts them off.
After ten checks it pauses and hands the decision back to you, rather than spinning indefinitely:
Keep waiting runs another round. Cancel verification stops and removes the purchase tag from your test subscriber.
Verification runs for up to 5 minutes before it times out.
What gets cleaned up
Sales verification tidies up after itself more thoroughly than the email one does.
What | What happens afterwards |
The Test Sale | Deleted once verification succeeds. It never appears in your Orders or Sales figures, and never triggers sales notifications. |
The purchase tag | Removed from the test subscriber on every outcome — success, timeout, or cancel. |
The subscriber | Stays in your Kit account. Delete them manually if you don't want them. |
If your Kit account uses double opt-in
Kit won't activate the subscriber until they confirm. The assistant will ask you to click the Confirm subscription link in the email Kit just sent. This is expected — once you confirm, the check carries on by itself.
6. Done
When the Test Sale registers, all seven steps turn green and the assistant confirms exactly what's now live — the tag it's watching, and the amount each purchase will record:
The last line is the one to note: the verification ran as a Test Sale, so it never touches your live totals.
Click Close. Your campaign's Orders and Sales figures will now fill in as real buyers get tagged.
Troubleshooting
The test sale never registers
What to do
Work through these in order:
Your test address already had the purchase tag. By far the most common cause. Kit only fires its "tag added" event when the tag is newly applied — if that subscriber already carried it from an earlier test, nothing fires and the check will always time out. Remove the tag from that subscriber in Kit, then re-run. Using a fresh address such as
you+salestest@yourdomain.comsidesteps this entirely.
Double opt-in wasn't confirmed. Check the inbox for your test address and click Confirm subscription.
Kit hasn't fired the Rule yet. Click Keep waiting for another round.
It isn't the tag your checkout applies. Confirm in Kit which tag actually lands on a real buyer, and re-run with that one.
Verification passed but my sales numbers are still zero
What to do
Verification proves the plumbing works. If real purchases aren't landing, the gap is upstream in Kit — your checkout or automation isn't applying the purchase tag to real buyers. Buy through your own checkout as a live test, then check in Kit whether the tag lands on that subscriber.
The assistant says your Kit plan doesn't support webhooks
What to do
That's a Kit plan limit rather than anything you configured wrong. Three routes:
Upgrade your Kit plan and re-run the step.
Use Deadline Funnel's manual Sales Tracking builder — the text of the Set Up Sales Tracking link opens it.
Send the sale from a webhook-capable source you already control — your checkout platform, Zapier, or Make.
The star icon isn't there
What to do
The assistant needs the campaign's Email Platform to be Kit, and it isn't offered on Shopify or Announcement Bar campaigns. If both look right, it may not be enabled for your account yet — get in touch and we'll check.
Will the test sale distort my analytics?
Short answer: no
Test Sales are flagged as tests from the moment they arrive. They're kept out of your campaign totals and benchmarks, they don't fire sales notifications, and they're deleted outright once verification succeeds.
Common questions
Can I run both the email and sales assistants on the same campaign?
Yes, and most people should. They use different tags — one marks the start of a deadline, the other marks a purchase — and they're wired independently.
What if my products have different prices?
Kit sales tracking records one fixed amount per tagged purchase. For variable order values, use your checkout platform's own Deadline Funnel integration, which can pass the real amount.
Can I change the amount later?
Yes. Re-open the assistant, choose Change the tag, and go through the steps again — you'll be asked for the amount, and the rule is replaced rather than duplicated.
Does re-running this create duplicate rules in Kit?
No. Creating the sales rule replaces the campaign's existing one every time.
Can I remove the test subscriber?
Yes — delete or unsubscribe them in Kit like any other subscriber. Deadline Funnel removes the purchase tag and the Test Sale for you, but leaves the subscriber alone.
Why does it say "Kit" when my account says "ConvertKit"?
Kit is the current name for the product formerly called ConvertKit.
