The ActiveCampaign Integration assistant connects your ActiveCampaign account to Deadline Funnel, guides you through the automation that starts each subscriber's deadline, and runs a live test to confirm it works.
To record purchases as well, see the companion article Set up ActiveCampaign sales tracking with AI.
Quick Links
Before you start
An ActiveCampaign account where you can create automations.
Your ActiveCampaign API URL and API Key. Find them in ActiveCampaign under Settings → Developer. You only need them the first time; after that Deadline Funnel remembers the connection.
A campaign whose Email Platform is set to ActiveCampaign.
An email address you own, to use as the test contact during verification.
A paid Deadline Funnel plan. The assistant isn't offered on free or Shopify accounts.
Supported campaign types
Evergreen, Tripwire Offer, Abandoned Cart, Automated Webinar, and Hybrid.
Open the assistant
From the AI Campaign Creator. When your new campaign is ready, click Next: Setup
ActiveCampaign Integration for this campaign.
From an existing campaign. Open the campaign's Emails step. Under Integrate With
ActiveCampaign, keep the ActiveCampaign tab selected and click Set up / verify with AI.
Skipping costs nothing
Click Skip for now in the Campaign Creator and open the assistant from the Emails step whenever you're ready.
1. Connect your ActiveCampaign account
If ActiveCampaign is already connected, the assistant checks the connection still works and moves on. If not, a form appears in the chat:
In ActiveCampaign, go to Settings → Developer.
Paste the URL into API URL (it looks like https://youraccount.api-us1.com) and the Key into API Key.
Click Connect ActiveCampaign.
Keep credentials in the form
Your key goes straight to Deadline Funnel. The AI never sees it, and it will never ask you to paste a key into the chat.
2. Check your setup
The assistant looks through your ActiveCampaign automations for one whose Webhook action already sends to this campaign. It also checks for common problems, like an automation that's switched off or a long wait before the Webhook action.
Nothing found: you move on to step 3 to build one.
Found, with a problem: the assistant explains what to fix. Fix it in ActiveCampaign, then type done in the chat.
More than one found: pick the automation this campaign should use.
If this campaign is already set up
The assistant offers Re-run verification to test your existing automation, or Set it up again to start over.
3. Build the automation
The assistant shows a five-step guide with screenshots. Keep ActiveCampaign open in another tab and follow along.
Open Automations. In ActiveCampaign's sidebar, click Automations, then Start from Scratch.
Choose the start trigger. We recommend Tag is added, with Runs set to Multiple times so you can test again with your own email. A form, list or any other trigger also works.
Add a Webhook action. Click the + right after the trigger, open the Workflow tab and choose Webhook.
Paste your URL and save. Copy your campaign's URL from the guide, paste it into Enter the URL to post to exactly as is, and click Save.
Switch it to Active with the switch at the top right of the automation builder.
From guide step 4 on, the assistant checks your account every 10 seconds. When it finds your automation, it says “Found your automation. Moving on to the test.” and continues by itself. If it stops checking, click Check now.
4. Verify it actually works
The assistant now runs a real test. Enter a test email, choose how to run the test, tick the confirmation box and click Start test.
TEST METHOD | WHAT IT DOES |
Run the automation (recommended) | Puts the test contact straight into your automation, skipping the trigger. Always available. |
Add the trigger tag | Adds your trigger tag to the test contact, like a real subscriber. Only offered when the automation starts with Tag is added. Every automation that starts on this tag will run, and the tag stays on the contact. |
Use an address you own
The test is real. Every step of your automation runs for the test email, including any emails it sends, and the contact is added to ActiveCampaign if it isn't there yet. The test email also gets a real deadline in this campaign.
5. Done
All steps turn green and the assistant confirms the post reached Deadline Funnel. Click Close, or Continue if you came from the Campaign Creator.
Back on the Emails step, tick Mark as Complete to update your setup checklist.
What “verified” actually proves
It proves your automation's Webhook action reaches Deadline Funnel, so anyone who goes through it gets a deadline. With Run the automation, the test skips your trigger, so it doesn't prove the trigger itself fires. To check that too, test with Add the trigger tag, or sign up through your own form. Timers on your pages are tested separately under Test Your Campaign.
Troubleshooting
Verification timed out — the post never arrived
Check that the automation is Active, that the Webhook URL is this campaign's URL exactly, and that no long wait, condition or goal comes before the Webhook action. Then click Run the test again.
“The Webhook action posts to a different Deadline Funnel address.”
The URL in your automation belongs to another campaign or was changed while pasting. Copy it again from guide step 4 and replace it.
“The automation is paused” / “switched off” / “still a draft”
Turn it on with the switch at the top right of the automation builder, then type done.
“ActiveCampaign didn't accept that API URL and key.”
Copy both again from Settings → Developer, without spaces. If the key works but ActiveCampaign won't open the account, use an admin user's key or check that the account isn't paused.
There's no “Set up / verify with AI” button
Make sure the campaign's Email Platform is ActiveCampaign, the ActiveCampaign tab is selected, the campaign type is supported, and you're on a paid plan.
You closed the chat by accident
Reopen it from the same page to pick up where you left off. If you reloaded the page, start again. A new test cancels any earlier one.
Common questions
Will the assistant change my existing automations?
No. It only reads your automations. You build and edit them yourself, and a test only runs when you click Start test.
Can I remove the test contact afterwards?
Yes. Delete it in ActiveCampaign, and remove the trigger tag if you used the tag method.
Do I have to run verification?
No, but it's the quickest way to know subscribers will get their deadlines.
My API key changed. What do I do?
Open the assistant and tell it. It shows a form to paste the new key. The new key applies to every campaign that uses this ActiveCampaign account.
Can I still set this up manually?
Yes. The manual steps are on the Emails step, below the AI card.
