In this doc, we'll show you how to Integrate Deadline Funnel with ConvertKit (API). There are a few additional steps to complete as well -

please visit our main ConvertKit guide for more details.

Our API Integration allows you to start a lead's Deadline Funnel tracking based on when a tag is added to the contact in ConvertKit.

You only need to connect your ConvertKit account to your Deadline Funnel account once. That involves adding the ConvertKit API Key and API Secret to your Deadline Funnel account.

Each campaign you then create in Deadline Funnel needs to be integrated with ConvertKit as well. This means specifying a tag for each campaign and then making sure that tag is applied to the contacts in ConvertKit wherever you want to add subscribers to that Deadline Funnel campaign.

How to connect Deadline Funnel to your ConvertKit account:

If you've already connected your ActiveCampaign account with Deadline Funnel,

you can skip to this step.

For your first integration, you will need to add your ConverKit API Key and API Secret to connect your Drip account with Deadline Funnel.

Login to your ConvertKit account, click on Account > Settings and then to Advanced. Copy the API Secret.

Paste the API Key into the API Key text box:

Back in ConvertKit, copy the API Secret and then paste it into the API Secret Key text box and then click Integrate:

✨ Integrate your Deadline Funnel campaign with ConvertKit:

Click 'Campaigns >> Integrations' in Deadline Funnel and then choose your campaign to set up your ConvertKit integration:

Click 'New Integration'

Select 'Create Deadline Funnel Tracking' and click 'Next':

Make sure that ConvertKit is selected and then click 'Next':

Select the ConvertKit account that you want to use with this integration: (you might have more than one ConvertKit account connected to Deadline Funnel)

On the next screen you'll need to select an existing tag in your ConvertKit account, or create a new tag by simply typing into the drop-down field we have provided. This tag will be used to trigger the deadline:

Once you've selected your trigger tag, click Create Webhook to add the webhook to ConvertKit:

If you want to select a custom field in ConvertKit to store a copy of each lead's deadline information, select it from the drop-down on the next screen, or if you want to create a new field, just start typing into the box to create the new custom field.

This is an optional step and should be completed before you copy the webhook:

Add the Trigger tag to a contact in ConvertKit to trigger a deadline in your campaign in Deadline Funnel

You can add the trigger tag to a contact using a rule in ConvertKit or in a Visual Automation.

Option 1 - Set up a rule to add the trigger tag in ConvertKit:

You have a few options for how to trigger the tag when using a rule, including triggering when someone is added to a sequence, when someone subscribes to a form or when another tag is added. The idea is to connect some step in your funnel that happens when a person first enters the funnel with the deadline trigger.

In this example, we used "Subscribes to a form".

Navigate to Automate and select Rules:

Click '+ New Rule':

In this example, we selected 'Subscribes to a form' as the trigger and selected the correct form. We then selected 'Add tag' as the action, and selected the tag that will trigger Deadline Funnel, and clicked 'Save Rule':

Now once someone subscribes to that form, ConvertKit will apply the tag, and the tag will tell Deadline Funnel to start the countdown.

Note: If you want to integrate several different funnels with ConvertKit, you will simply repeat these steps and create a new integration and tag for each campaign, as well as separate automations/sequences in ConvertKit.

This creates a system where Tag A triggers Campaign A, while Tag B triggers Campaign B.

Option 2 - Add the tag to a Visual Automation in ConvertKit

In this section, we'll cover how to add the trigger tag in a Visual Automation in ConvertKit.

The point at which the trigger tag is added can vary depending on your particular funnel, but in this example, we'll show how to add it so that the deadline will be triggered immediately after someone submits a form.

Navigate to your automation in ConvertKit and click to add a step after the automation trigger step:

Select 'Action' and 'Add or remove tag':

Then select the trigger tag you specified in Deadline Funnel and hit 'Add Action':

Now the trigger tag will be added immediately after someone opts in to the funnel, which will start their deadline, and then you can send them through your email sequence:

Additional Feature: Bulk Actions

Note: If you want to add several people to a Deadline Funnel campaign you can now do that using ConvertKit's Bulk Actions.

Navigate to Subscribers, select the subscriber(s) you want to tag, and click 'Bulk Actions':

Then click 'Add a Tag':

Select the tag that triggers your Deadline Funnel campaign and click 'Save':

You can tag as many subscribers as you want to trigger.

After the ConvertKit system finishes adding the tags, you can return to the Analytics section in Deadline Funnel and you will see that the emails you tagged in ConvertKit are being tracked by Deadline Funnel.

Testing Your Integration

You can test by opting into your funnel, waiting until the contact has been tagged, and then checking under Analytics >> People Tracked in Deadline Funnel to confirm their email address was received by Deadline Funnel.

(It may take a couple of minutes to come through, so make sure to wait and refresh the Analytics page a couple of times if it's not showing up.)

If that email appears here, you know everything is working correctly with your integration. 🙂 🎉 If you don't see it after a few minutes, you'll need to revisit your integration setup and troubleshoot.

Important Note about Email Links

For the API integration to work you MUST use the Deadline Funnel email links in any of your emails that link to a sales page with a countdown timer, or that link to a page in your funnel that links to another page with your countdown timer.

In other words, the API integration requires that your subscribers click one of the Deadline Funnel email links before they reach a page with a countdown. This is necessary in order to make sure each subscriber is assigned the correct deadline.
